United Way of Greater St. Louis: Volunteer Subcommittee Members
United Way is seeking individuals to serve on one of three subcommittees that support our Community Investment Division strategy. Each of the three subcommittees support United Way’s philosophy toward building a stronger community and ensuring donor investments are distributed in a responsible manner. The three subcommittees are:
- Safety Net Subcommittee: Operates in collaboration with United Way staff in providing oversight to the Safety Net funding process and ensures processes align with United Way’s identified community needs, geographical representation, and demonstration of outcomes and impact. Safety Net is our largest funding pool providing services across our 16-county service area. These nonprofit organizations address needs identified in support of our five impact pillars.
- Systems Change Subcommittee: Operates in collaboration with United Way staff in providing oversight to the Systems Change funding process. The Systems Change initiatives focus on supporting agencies that provide backbone and collective impact services.
- Targeted Subcommittee: Operates in collaboration with United Way staff in providing oversight to the Targeted funding process and ensures flexible funding to support nonprofits that are best positioned to address identified needs by implementing programs that use an emergent or innovative approach to an existing community challenge.

Volunteers must be able to meet the minimum requirements to serve as a community investment volunteer:
- Be at least 21 years old
- Not volunteering or serving as a member on a funded agency’s Board of Directors
- Available to attend mandatory training
- Ability to commit to at least 20 hours
