Frequently Asked Questions

COVID-19 Update: Until further notice, we are deferring judgment for all volunteer needs and projects to our nonprofit, school and corporate partners. We’ve been in contact with all of them and will update our volunteer calendar, programs, and needs of our community as requested. We encourage you to contact the organization directly to confirm if a volunteer project is still happening or to let them know you will not be in attendance. And, we are asking any volunteers or volunteer family members that may have been exposed to COVID-19 or who are not feeling well to NOT volunteer with any organization for at least 14-days. For more information visit our COVID-19 volunteer response page.

I forgot my username. How do I retrieve that information?

Your username is the email address you used when you created your account.  If your email address does not work at login, please contact us at stlvolunteer@stl.unitedway.org and a representative should be in contact with you within 1 to 2 business days.

I forgot my password. How do I retrieve that information?

Click here, enter your email address (username) and click "Email Link". An email with directions on how to set a new password will be sent to you.

Do I need to have an email address to register?

Yes. Our website uses your email address to identify you and send you important information about any opportunities for which you sign up. If you do not have an email account, you can get one free of charge from Yahoo or Google. Free internet access is also available at most public libraries.

I need to complete a lot of volunteer hours in a short amount of time. Can you help?

Visit the volunteer opportunity calendar to view projects chronologically or go to the search page and use the keyword box to list the types of activities you think you would enjoy, along with your zip code.  Please keep in mind that many of the nonprofit partners who post their opportunities on the website may take up to 3-4 business days to respond to your inquiry to volunteer and may need you to complete a volunteer application, background check, etc. before you can begin helping.  If you are looking for court-ordered volunteer opportunities click here to see the current list of opportunities.

Why don't you provide the whole address for the opportunity on the sign-up page?

We are dedicated to personal and organizational privacy. Some organizations with which we work request that their addresses remain anonymous for their clients’ protection. Use the zip code on the volunteer opportunity sign-up page to get a better understanding of the opportunity’s location. Once you register and sign up for the opportunity, you will receive an email with the project address and directions.

I have expressed interest in a volunteer opportunity but have not heard from the organization leading the project. What should I do?

It may take the opportunity coordinator at the organization 3-4 business days before they reach out with next steps.  You should have received an email from STLVolunteer@stl.unitedway.org providing you with the opportunity coordinator's contact information.  Please feel free to reach out directly to the opportunity coordinator.  If you no longer have the email, you can log into your volunteer account and click on the volunteer opportunity name. On the opportunity overview page, click the orange envelope to email the opportunity coordinator.  If you need additional assistance please contact us at STLVolunteer@stl.unitedway.org

I registered for a volunteer opportunity outside of the St. Louis area.  Why am I receiving emails from STLVolunteer?

MOVolunteer is powered by the United Way of Greater St. Louis, which includes all automated emails and technical support. Local United Way's throughout the state of Missouri partner with the United Way of Greater St. Louis to provide this statewide community resource as the Give Help resource for United Way's 211.

How can my organization's volunteer opportunities appear on the website?

To post volunteer opportunities on the website, you need to first create a free account. The account will grant you access to the volunteer management portal which allows you the ability to recruit and manage volunteers. Don't forget to check the eligibility criteria before creating an account.  If you are already a current partner, please log into your organization account page for more information on how to post projects.

I am new to my organization. How do I know if we already have an account?

Click here to browse all active organizations. You can contact us at STLVolunteer@stl.unitedway.org for more information.

I have just become a partner on the website.  How do I learn more?

We have developed several helpful how-to-videos on how to navigate your agency account and post volunteer opportunities. We would welcome the opportunity to meet with you to further discuss how the Volunteer Center, specifically the website, can help meet your organizational needs.  Contact us at stlvolunteer@stl.unitedway.org.

I just submitted my volunteer opportunity. Why hasn't it shown up on the website yet?

We have staff approving projects. You will receive an e-mail notification once the project has been approved and posted. If it has not shown up on the website within three business days, please contact us at STLVolunteer@stl.unitedway.org.

How will volunteers express interest in my opportunity?

The site functions as a search engine for volunteer opportunities. Volunteers can search for opportunities based on location, interest, and skills. When a volunteer expresses interest in a project, both the project contact and the volunteer will receive each other's contact information. We highly recommend that the organization's staff contact the volunteer within 2-3 business days. We also track volunteer feedback to ensure that the process works smoothly.
