📍 Location: Various Shelter Locations across St. Louis
🗓️ Date/Time: Multiple shifts available (please arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled shift for training)
The Red Cross is seeking compassionate and reliable Shelter Worker Volunteers to support individuals and families impacted by the recent Missouri tornadoes. No experience necessary — training will be provided on-site.
🔧 Role Overview:
As a Shelter Worker, you will help ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for shelter residents. Your work is essential in providing stability and comfort during a time of crisis.
🧹 Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with cot cleaning, shelter setup, and takedown
- Provide basic support and emotional care to residents
- Distribute meals, snacks, and supplies
- Help with client registration and recordkeeping
- Monitor health and safety concerns and report as needed
- Collaborate with fellow volunteers and Red Cross staff to ensure smooth operations
✅ Requirements:
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs and walk/sit for extended periods
- Wear closed-toe shoes and dress appropriately for shelter conditions
- Bring photo ID and your Red Cross badge (available from your profile page)
- Adhere to the Red Cross dress code (no political, religious, or offensive messaging)
🛡️ Health & Safety:
- To protect the wellbeing of all involved, volunteers must:
- Be symptom-free and not have had recent exposure to illness
- Follow masking guidelines if required during the operation
- Immediately report any symptoms or positive test results to Staff Health
