Organization Profile

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rivers Project Office works with dozens of agencies, community groups, and non-profit organizations to deliver education, conservation, and recreation to the citizens we serve. Through our locations in Alton, IL and West Alton, MO we share a missions with the Meeting of the Rivers Foundation at the National Great Rivers Museum and with the Audubon Society at the Audubon Center at Riverlands. At the National Great Rivers Museum in Alton, IL., we partner with the Meeting of the Rivers Foundation to provide high quality education and interpretive experiences that advance public awareness and understanding of great rivers issues, and thereby promote and inspire greater public and private stewardship and active involvement in the protection, preservation, and sustainable use of our river environments. USACE also partners with the Audubon Center at Riveralnds in the stewardship of the Riverlands Migratrory Bird Sanctuary in West Alton, MO. The Sanctuary provides excellent opportunities for Audubon and the Corps to partner on education and outreach, conservation, and recreational opportunities for the public. Audubon also works with the Corps on river policy issues, both locally and throughout the Mississippi River watershed.
