Saint Louis Story Stitchers Artists Collective Seeks Nominations to the Board of Directors

Saint Louis Story Stitchers is seeking nominations to the board of directors. The board is a diverse group of parents, professionals, and caring adults who give of themselves in various ways including time, skills, knowledge, and funds.

We are currently seeking nominations to the board of directors for Officers and Members At Large:

The Saint Louis Story Stitchers Artists Collective, a 501(c)(3) organization, is professional artists and inner-city youth grades ages 16-24, working together to create social change with a focus on gun violence prevention. Stitchers collect local stories, reframe and retell them through art, writing, and performance to promote understanding, civic pride, intergenerational relationships, and literacy. Story Stitchers are a Resident Organization at Kranzberg Arts Foundation in the vibrant Grand Center Arts District and run a Storefront Studio for recording and publishing in the historic Loop District.

Since 2013 Saint Louis Story Stitchers have gained support from or collaborated with: Washington University in St. Louis, Kranzberg Arts Foundation, Missouri Foundation for Health, Regional Arts Commission, Missouri Arts Council, Mid-America Arts Alliance, National Endowment for the Arts, Missouri Humanities Council, National Endowment for the Humanities, Youthbridge Community Foundation, Spirit of St. Louis Women’s Fund, Saigh Foundation, Cardinals Care, University of Missouri's Extension Service's St. Louis Storytelling Festival, KWMU's We Live Here, Saint Louis Art Museum, Fringe Fest, St. Louis Mental Health Board, and more. The Collective meets with youth year-round and has presented publicly over 200 times, engaging diverse audiences of over 18,000. 

Story Stitchers has great momentum:

  • Largest income in our history at $214,000

  • Moving into a 2nd auxiliary space, pre-paid for 2021 in Kranzberg Arts Foundation

  • Growing service to at-risk youth from 25 in 2019 to 75 in 2020

  • Highly respected as a fine arts organization with growing national recognition

  • Highly respected as a creative youth development organization with an impact on youth crime prevention, racial justice, and community healing

 

PRESIDENT

Saint Louis Story Stitchers Artists Collective seeks nominations for President. The position is a volunteer officer role in the organization. We seek an ethical person who can lead the organization through its next period of growth with experience in business, nonprofit sustainability, and growth. The President plans and presides at four board meetings a year and participate in a leadership role in fundraising activities leading to individual, government, and corporate funding. The President makes an annual financial donation of at least $1,500. Business and fundraising skills are required. The President shall present a full and detailed report of the affairs of the Corporation at the Annual Meeting.

VICE PRESIDENT

Saint Louis Story Stitchers Artists Collective seeks nominations for Vice President. The position is a volunteer officer role in the organization. The Vice President is responsible to assist the President as may be requested and he or she shall perform the duties of the President, Secretary, or Treasurer in his or her absence or in the event of his or her inability or refusal to act. The Vice President is asked to attend and report at four board meetings a year, participate in a leadership role in fundraising activities, and make an annual financial donation. Business and fundraising skills are a plus.

TREASURER

Saint Louis Story Stitchers Artists Collective seeks nominations for treasurer. The treasurer sets the annual budget for board approval and leads the finance committee which plans the financial development of the organization. The treasurer will help to get the organization ready to apply for foundation and corporate grants and oversee a hired accountant who keeps the monthly books. The treasurer is asked to co-sign grant and other financial documents, attend and report at four board meetings a year, and make an annual financial donation. CPA or strong accounting skills are required. Knowledge of grant budget preparation is a plus. The organization has a contracted CPA who keeps the books in QuickBooks online.

SECRETARY

Saint Louis Story Stitchers Artists Collective seeks nominations for secretary. The position is a volunteer officer role in the young organization. The Secretary is responsible for keeping the minutes of the meetings of the Corporation and distributing copies of these minutes to all current members at least a week prior to the next meeting. The Secretary shall see that all notices are duly given in accordance with the provisions of the Bylaws; maintain a list of members, and prepare and present to the Board of Directors such other reports as it may desire and request at such time or times as it may designate. The Secretary is asked to help with correspondence and track donor receipts. The Secretary is asked to attend and report at four board meetings a year, participate in fundraising activities, and make an annual financial donation. Organizational skills are necessary.

MEMBERS AT LARGE

Saint Louis Story Stitchers Artists Collective seeks nominations for Member At Large to the board. The board lends oversight and professional expertise to the volunteer administrative leadership. The board meets quarterly with an annual meeting and election in December. Board members are asked to give at a level stretching their personal capacity, participate in fundraising activities including the annual Bowl A Thon, and attend four board meetings each year. Board members are expected to act as advocates for the organization and attend or help to organize a minimum of one to two events per year.
