Children's Home & Aid Southern Region Volunteer Opportunities

Children’s Home & Aid’s Southern Region impacts over 10,000 families throughout the Metro East and Southern Illinois each year. We are an organization that values volunteers and welcomes those from our diverse communities to contribute time and talents—to give children help, hope, and opportunity!

Volunteers of various ages and backgrounds may join us through ongoing or one-time opportunities, and groups may partner with us through projects and events.

We’re committed to training and supporting each volunteer. Those who routinely work with clients are asked to participate in a screening process, including an in-person interview, fingerprinting background check, and orientation training. Volunteers could also be asked to complete a drug screening and medical exam if requested or necessary for the program they are volunteering in.

INDIVIDUAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

  • Mentor/Foster Friend: Our foster children and our teens at risk of entering the juvenile justice system are in particular need of positive, consistent, adult relationships.

  • Foster Youth Connection: Our agency cares for over 125 Metro East kids in foster care, and each year, we have a handful who move out on their own—as independent adults. We are currently building a group of adult volunteers focused on walking with these youth through apartment searches, job hunts, school applications, household responsibilities, and holiday celebrations.

  • Tutoring: Many of the kids we serve struggle academically. They are up against unique challenges in their home life and sometimes have had poor school attendance due to these challenges. We have school-age kids, from Elementary to High School, who could benefit from some one-on-one educational instruction. Certain pre-qualified may apply to this volunteer opportunity.

  • Administrative/Office Support: Volunteers file paperwork, prepare mailings, and organize storage areas, allowing our staff to spend more time out of the office serving families! Experience with Excel and office equipment is ideal for this type of volunteer.

  • Photographer: If you’re a professional photographer or an amateur with basic skills and equipment, consider joining us to capture the milestones of children in foster care through portrait photography!

  • Documenting Memories: Work one-on-one with a child to create a Lifebook. Our kids in foster care have often experienced many moves. Creating a Lifebook is a way to help them organize those memories, recall their life chronologically, and visually see how they have belonged somewhere at every point in time.

  • Event Volunteers: From a summer party for foster families to a holiday gift drive for all the families our agency serves, volunteers may help us plan and host events that bring smiles to the faces kids, parents, and guardians.

  • GROUP VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Research has shown that employees prefer to work for companies invested in charitable causes, and volunteering is a terrific way to facilitate that need. If your organization or group would be interested in partnering with Children’s Home & Aid we have many different opportunities.

  • Help for the Holidays: Sponsor families as a group!

  • Event for Our Kids

  • Fundraising events

  • Donating and collecting materials for Lifebook/Scrapbook

  • Hygiene Kits

  • Diaper Drive

  • We also welcome groups to host donation drives for household items for our kids and families, including school supplies, new winter coats, books, suitcases, or holiday gifts.
