Disaster Responder (Disaster Action Team - DAT)
Disaster Action Team (DAT) Members critically needed in the following counties:
- Kirksville
- Phelps
- Miller
- Maries
- Gasconade
- Osage
You will respond on-scene to house fires (or other local disasters) to provide resources, comfort, and hope to those family members affected. While not considered first responders in the technical sense, DAT members are typically the first people at a disaster scene who provide comfort and direct assistance to help those who have been affected as they begin the recovery process. When disaster strikes, DAT members are generally dispatched in teams of two. You and your team members are the faces of the Red Cross on possibly the worst days/nights of someone's life.
You will receive extensive online training because when you arrive at the scene, wearing a Red Cross vest, everyone will look at you and see a subject matter expert in disaster response. We are very proud of all our volunteers, but disaster volunteers are very special. They have hearts as big as the moon and their passion is to serve others in their times of need. We would love to have you join our team!
What are the qualifications?
• Must be 18 or older
• Must have a valid drivers license with a good driving history
• Strong interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills
• Ability to promote and maintain productive working relationships with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds
