Handy Persons Needed to Assist Older People
Can you hang a picture? Change a lightbulb? Great!
Can you fix a leaky faucet? A running toilet? Terrific!
If you have any level of home repair knowledge and a desire to assist older adults in their homes, or apartments, contact St. Louis NORC! This non-sectarian program supports the healthy aging of older adults in their own homes by providing assistance and increased access to support services.
As a volunteer, you can help our senior residents with those little things around the home that are so simple for you but are so helpful for our residents who can't safely climb ladders or swing a hammer anymore. Tasks may include changing light bulbs, fixing leaky faucets, changing furnace filters, cleaning out closets, changing light fixtures, yard work, hanging pictures, flipping mattresses, etc. It isn't necessary to have maintenance experience, just a willingness to help!
Volunteering can be done as little as a couple of hours a month or as often as several hours per week. Times will be mutually agreed upon by volunteer and resident.
Since our volunteers complete a background check, we request that an adult/parent accompany volunteers under 18 (minimum age of 12) at all times. This is a wonderful opportunity for family involvement!
Groups are welcome, though unable to enter residents homes. Tasks might include planting, raking and preparing yards for the season.
Age Minimum (with Adult): 18+, Minimum Age:18+
