Area Board

American Cancer Society Area Board to Lead Cancer Fighting Efforts in the Missouri Area
The American Cancer Society (ACS) is creating new volunteer Area Boards in 46 geographic areas across the country. Area Board members will be dedicated, community-minded leaders who have the influence, passion, and connections to mobilize people and organizations to support the Society’s mission to save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer.

Area Board members will:

  • Represent a broad range of community sectors, including major businesses, government, media, health systems and more.

  • Partner with a staff Executive Director to develop and execute strategic plans for their area.

  • Be leaders and influencers who have the ability to increase the Society’s community relevance and generate revenue to support the ACS mission.

  • Serve three-year terms and participate in virtual and in-person Board meetings.

  • Support ACS through personal giving and participation in fundraising events.

  • Motivate and recognize area companies, volunteers and donors who support the Society.

  • Serve as a connecting and guiding force for the various ACS affinity groups in the area, including special events, advocacy groups, and local volunteer councils.

The American Cancer Society is a global grassroots force of two million volunteers saving lives in every community. As the largest voluntary health organization, the Society's efforts have contributed to a 25 percent decline in the cancer death rate in the U.S. since 1991, driven by less smoking, better treatments, and earlier detection. We're finding cures as the nation's largest private, not-for-profit investor in cancer research, ensuring people facing cancer have the help they need and continuing the fight for access to quality health care, lifesaving screenings and more.
