Community Champions
Senior Community Champions inform and recruit residents for solid waste management trainings, creative demonstrations, workshops, and cleanup. Champions develop leadership and advocacy skills by engaging with neighbors, businesses, city departments and public officials. Environmental Justice Training is provided and Champions will gain knowledge of city structures, solid waste management, and environmental care. Champions also work with a team of other senior champions and directly supervise 3 youth Junior Champions to develop strategies to resolve issues with litter and illegal dumping.
1. Conduct outreach and maintain communication with community members by attending community events and meetings, canvassing door to door and flyering
2. Conduct clean-ups
Qualifications
a) A resident of Dutchtown, Gravois Park, Marine Villa or Mt. Pleasant
b) Relationships within the neighborhood
c) Public speaking skills
d) An investment in the progress of the neighborhoods
e) A desire to mentor youth
f) Ability to collaborate and work in groups
g) Ability to commit a minimum of 10 hours per month
h) Ability to commit to May through October 2018
Compensation
$600 stipend; minimum of 10 hrs/month; May through October
Age Minimum (with Adult): 11+, Minimum Age:11+, Court Ordered Volunteer - Allowed
