Veteran-to-Veteran Companions Make Last Days, Good Days!

Are you a veteran with a few hours a month to give? Volunteer with Bethesda Hospice Care, and help make another veteran’s last days, good days! As a Bethesda Hospice Veteran Companion, you'll gain the deep satisfaction of helping veterans in their final of stage of life to have the best quality of life possible, by providing companionship and a caring presence. This veteran-to-veteran program provides unique support to veterans at end-of-life, through companionship, compassionate listening, and grateful acknowledgment of service.

Here are some of the things you could do as a Veteran Companion - read to veterans, listen to their life stories, play music for them, look at pictures and medals together, reminisce with them, pray with them, share their concerns with nurses and staff, be a supportive presence, and participate in Veteran's Day and Honor Escort Ceremonies.

You'll be able to choose when you visit and how many veterans you would like to visit, so this volunteer opportunity is a good fit for almost any schedule. We also have many several facilities in the St. Louis metro area, so you can choose to visit veterans at the facility which is most convenient for you. Plus, Bethesda Hospice Care is recognized as a “We Honor Veterans” program Level Four Partner, the highest rating possible! Average time commitment is 2 - 4 hours per month, on a flexible schedule of your choosing.
