Tax Preparation 2020

Each year, InterServ volunteers provide a valuable service to the community by providing free tax preparation for seniors over the age of 60 and families and individuals who make less than $50,000 each year. In previous years, volunteers helped return between $1 and $2.1 million back to the St. Joseph community.

Tax preparation volunteers are currently being recruited for the 2018 tax season. Volunteers choose dates/times that they are available to donate their time to the InterServ tax office, which typically operates several days per week during the tax season.

Volunteers are provided with high-quality technology, support from the Volunteer Services Director, and snacks/drinks during their volunteer time. We want this volunteer opportunity to be as enjoyable as possible!

All training materials, both books, and online tools will be provided by the IRS through our office. In person, training will be offered at a local venue. The training is free and open to anyone interested in volunteering with our free tax preparation program. Beginning tax prep volunteers will be partnered with an experienced volunteer to help guide them through the certification process and ensure a successful season for the both of them.

Individuals with tax preparation and/or accounting experience are obviously highly encouraged to volunteer. However, anyone who is highly motivated and interested in learning about tax preparation and volunteering is also invited to register with the program.
