Asset Project Financial Coach Training 2015-2016

Nature of Work: The volunteer will provide one-on-one financial coaching to participants in the A.S.S.E.T. Project while the participant works toward financial and savings goals. 

Length of Volunteer Commitment: Until participant reaches savings goal
(minimum of 6 months, maximum of 12 months)

Volunteer Times/Location: Vary based on participant’s and coach’s schedules; total 1-2 hours/month

Responsibilities: Provide 1-2 hours/month of coaching support to 1 individual:

  • Provide accountability and support to participants who are making monthly deposits toward a goal of $200

  • Provide additional financial resources (budgeting, credit, etc) when appropriate

  • Empower participant to make best financial choices for their situation

  • Document all financial coaching sessions and turn in notes to United Way staff

  • Assist participant in completing matching fund request forms to access $400

Qualifications Needed:

  • Willing and open to working with low-income families

  • Ability to work with individuals in a respectful and non-judgmental manner

  • Ability to maintain confidentially and build trust

  • Ability to be encouraging and motivating

  • Ability to practice effective listening skills

  • Training Requirements:

  • Complete 6 hours of Financial Coaching Training

    • Saturday, December 5, 2015 9am-3pm at United Way

  • Participate in at least 1 conference call quarterly group peer sessions with coaches and United Way staff:

    • Thursday, March 10, 2016 7:30am-8:30am (conference call)

    • Thursday, June 9, 2016  7:30am-8:30am (conference call)

  • Additional quarterly meetings as necessary

Accountability Requirements:

• Complete monthly coaching session forms and return to United Way via dropbox (will need access to scanner, fax machine, or camera phone)

• Monthly follow-up with United Way (phone or email) about monthly coaching activities.  Communication will be initiated by United Way

Application Requirements:
•    Volunteer Matching form (through STLVolunteer registration or hard copy)

•    Background Check (Verified Volunteers) completed through UW volunteer center
